And what role do technology centres, innovation parks and strong networks play in this?<\/p>\n<p>These questions were the focus of the visit by a Ukrainian delegation from the Dnipro region on 20.08.2026 to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tzdo.de\/en\/bio-medizin-zentrum-dortmund\/\"><strong>BiomedicineCentreDortmund (BMZ)<\/strong><\/a>. The exchange took place as part of the project <a href=\"https:\/\/staff.germanistik.rub.de\/dnipronrw\/\">DniproNRW Science Bridge<\/a> instead of the cooperation between the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uaruhr.de\/\">UA Ruhr <\/a>and the Dnipro region further deepened.<\/p>\n<p>The focus was on knowledge and technology transfer, start-up structures, cooperation between higher education institutions and business and the region, as well as the development of long-term sustainable innovation ecosystems.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5673\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5673\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5673 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tzdo.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/20260820_132903-1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tzdo.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/20260820_132903-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.tzdo.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/20260820_132903-1-1200x900.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.tzdo.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/20260820_132903-1-16x12.jpg 16w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5673\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dirk St\u00fcrmer presents the TZDO<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tzdo.de\/en\/\"><strong>TechnologyCentreDortmund (TZDO)<\/strong> <\/a>we were able to demonstrate how technology transfer is put into practice in Dortmund: through specialised infrastructure, industry-specific competence centres, direct proximity to research facilities and a network that brings together start-ups, SMEs, science and industrial application.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dirk St\u00fcrmer<\/strong>, <strong>Marcel Hildebrand<\/strong> and <strong>Dr Joanna Stachnik<\/strong> provided insights into the regional innovation ecosystem and two key areas that particularly characterise Dortmund:<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\ude9a <strong>Smart Logistics &amp; AI<\/strong><br \/>\nWith actors such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iml.fraunhofer.de\/\">Fraunhofer IML<\/a>, the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.isst.fraunhofer.de\/\"> Fraunhofer ISST<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tu-dortmund.de\/\">TU Dortmund<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fh-dortmund.de\/\">University of Applied Sciences and Arts Dortmund<\/a>, the<a href=\"https:\/\/lamarr-institute.org\/de\/\"> Lamarr Institute<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/digitalhublogistics.com\/\">Digital Hub Logistics <\/a>Dortmund has a strong environment for digital logistics, intelligent material flow systems and AI-based applications. With the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tzdo.de\/en\/zentrum-fuer-logistik-und-it-dortmund\/\"><strong>Centre for Logistics and IT Dortmund (ZLI)<\/strong><\/a> furthermore, another important building block is being created in the technology park: a location for companies that translate logistics, IT, AI and intelligent assistance systems into concrete applications.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83e\uddec <strong>Biomedicine &amp; Drug Discovery<\/strong><br \/>\nDortmund is also strongly positioned in biomedicine. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tu-dortmund.de\/\">TU Dortmund<\/a>, that<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mpi-dortmund.mpg.de\/de\"> Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology<\/a>, that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifado.de\/de\/\">Leibniz Research Centre for Working Environment and Human Factors at TU Dortmund University (IfADo)<\/a>, that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isas.de\/\">Leibniz-Institut f\u00fcr Analytische Wissenschaften (ISAS)<\/a>, that <a href=\"https:\/\/caledo.tu-dortmund.de\/\">Caledo<\/a>, that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lead-discovery.de\/de\/\">Lead Discovery Centre<\/a> as well as other companies and spin-offs from the BMZ environment shape the location and drug discovery in Dortmund.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5674\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5674\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5674 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tzdo.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/20260820_141547-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tzdo.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/20260820_141547-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.tzdo.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/20260820_141547-1200x900.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.tzdo.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/20260820_141547-16x12.jpg 16w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5674\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tour of the laboratory at the ZIW<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>To give this potential further room, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tzdo.de\/en\/zentrum-fuer-integrierte-wirkstoffforschung-dortmund\/\"><strong>Centre for Integrated Drug Discovery Dortmund (ZIW)<\/strong><\/a> yet another important building block in the technology park. With modern S1 and S2 laboratory spaces, the ZIW creates additional opportunities for companies in biomedicine, life sciences and active substance development.<\/p>\n<p>The visit has shown once more how valuable international exchange is when it comes to transfer structures, innovation spaces and the connection between science and industry.<\/p>\n<p>Many thanks to the delegation from Dnipro and to everyone involved for the open and inspiring exchange at the BMZ.
