On 08\/09, a high-ranking US delegation from the Midwest stopped off, among other places, at the Centre for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tzdo.de\/en\/zentrum-fuer-produktionstechnologie-dortmund\/\">Production Technology Dortmund (NDT)<\/a> made \u2013 in the middle of the PHOENIX West technology park, where steel was once melted and where people now tinker with artificial intelligence, digital twins, nanotechnology and lightweight construction.<\/p>\n<p>The trip was organised by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gaccmidwest.org\/de\">German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest \/ AHK USA-Chicago<\/a> as part of the programme \u201eConnecting Midwest &amp; German Startup Ecosystems \u2013 Hardtech &amp; Deeptech in Manufacturing and Industry\u201c, funded via the European Recovery Program (ERP) of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The five-day journey leads through North Rhine-Westphalia, with numerous stops across the Ruhr region.<\/p>\n<p>Also on board: representatives of organisations such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gener8tor.com\/\">gener8tor<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purelansing.com\/\">Lansing Economic Area Partnership<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/polsky.uchicago.edu\/\">Polsky Center of the University of Chicago<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omaha100.org\/\">Omaha 100<\/a>. A particularly lovely moment: <strong>Kelly Armstrong<\/strong> from the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.innovatekin.org\/\"> Kenosha Innovation Neighborhood<\/a>, which is currently transforming a decommissioned car plant in Wisconsin into an innovation district, met in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tzdo.de\/en\/zentrum-fuer-produktionstechnologie-dortmund\/\">Non-destructive testing<\/a> <\/strong>onto a blueprint that PHOENIX West itself went through over 20 years ago: from a steel location to a technology park.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr Christoph Gehlen<\/strong> received the guests and gave insights into the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tzdo.de\/en\/zentrum-fuer-produktionstechnologie-dortmund\/\">Centre for Production Technology Dortmund (ZfP)<\/a>)<\/strong> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tzdo.de\/en\/mst-factory-dortmund\/\"><strong>MST Factory Dortmund (MST)<\/strong><\/a> of the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tzdo.de\/en\/\">TechnologyCentreDortmund (TZDO)<\/a><\/strong>, in which over 40 companies from automation, additive manufacturing, micro- and nanotechnology are working on the exact topics that \u201eHardtech &amp; Deeptech\u201c are all about. For us as <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tzdo.de\/en\/\">TZDO<\/a><\/strong> the visit demonstrates once again how firmly the Ruhr area has established itself as a focal point for international innovation delegations.
