The route of the driverless H-Bahn has thus reached a total length of three kilometres.

For the extension of 1,212 metres, 55 supports were erected, which were connected with steel girders up to 37.5 metres long.

The H-Bahn was opened to public transport on 2 May 1984 and is regarded as the first system of its kind in Germany.

In the early years, the fully automated large-cabin railway travelled between the North and South Campus of the Technical University of Dortmund.

In 1993, the line was extended to Eichlinghofen and to the S-Bahn stop at TU Dortmund University.

The H-Bahn transports up to 8,000 passengers a day in the TU Dortmund area.

It is integrated into the public transport network of the city of Dortmund and is part of the Rhine-Ruhr transport association (VRR).

The H-Bahn runs on weekdays (except Saturdays) from 06:21 to 24:00.
