The "ISAS Campus" building was built in the immediate vicinity of the Biomedicine Centre Dortmund (BMZ) and occupied in 2009. The BMZ at Otto-Hahn-Straße 15 had opened four years earlier in May 2005.
ISAS was founded in 1952 and has two locations in Dortmund: The other part of the institute, "ISAS City", is located at Bunsen-Kirchhoff-Straße 11.
The institute develops powerful analytical methods for health research.
With its innovations, it is helping to improve the prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, autoimmune diseases and cancer, for example.
The aim is to advance personalised therapy. To achieve this, around 160 employees from 20 nations combine knowledge from biology, chemistry, medicine, pharmacology, physics and computer science.
ISAS works closely with universities in Germany and abroad, for example through joint appointments. It also cooperates with national and international partners from science and industry.
