The Ruhr region is excellent

Congratulations to TU Dortmund and Ruhr-Universität Bochum!

On October 2, the Scientific Council announced: The „Ruhr Innovation Lab“ – the joint application by TU Dortmund and Ruhr University Bochum – will be funded as an excellence cluster starting in 2027. In this round of the excellence strategy by the federal government and the states, only five new excellence universities and clusters were selected nationwide.

TU Rector Manfred Bayer summed up the joy over the success: „Together, we have climbed to the Champions League of science.“ Dortmund’s Mayor Alexander Kalouti also congratulated the team and described the decision as a strong signal for the entire Ruhr scientific region.

For about 40 years now, the TZDO at the Science and Technology Campus Dortmund, door to door with the TU Dortmund And numerous other research institutions. From this experience we know: When top-level research grows, new innovations, companies and spin-offs grow from it, and with them the demand for space, infrastructure and strong networks.

The success of Ruhr Innovation Lab This also provides a boost for technology transfer at the site and for the narrative that the Ruhr region has been telling for decades: from structural change to a science region. We are all the more pleased that we have supported the application of the Ruhr Innovation Lab and thus been able to contribute our share to this great success.

Congratulations to the Ruhr University Bochum and TU Dortmund. We look forward to what will emerge next from this new level of excellence in research, transfer, and the location itself!
